Marokopa-Kirit here.

(from our own corses ondent).

, i Having been requested y the mana- ' j ger of the Northern S.S. Jo. to report i on the progress of the di riots served j by the port of Marokopa, I herein give i a short account of progo is mads duri ing the past 12 months i We have bad felled and burned abouG2ooo acres of , I bush. We also have t .d some miles , of bridle track A connection 1 has been established with Te Kuiti. The Waipawa ro»d jonneeting Kiritehere with Marokjifa, has been opened and is being wyfned into a dray road. Work is on on tbe Kairirau, Whak/iau and Marokopa Valley roads aitogeffier the road system is I* ng linked up rapidly, aud it will noJZne long before all the roads are The most important link is tJKt part of the Marokapa Vai- : fey roa from the Heads to the Kai- , fi/'far three meetings in connection wit' the erection of a butter factory b 4 e been held —two at Marqkopa and *e at Te Anga. Mr P, Rose is sec- ■ .etary to the movement and Mr J. Woulds chairman. A lot of correspondence in connection therewith has ensued. We have had a visit from Mr Fulton, Government Dairy Expert, and Mr Yoek, representing Messrs Mason, btratbers and 00. These gentlemen, after going over the district, expressed themselves as satisfied that it was suitable for dairying, predicting that it would aoon develope ' into an important indu-try. Mr Fulton chose a site fof a factory, which is situated at Pungatown, Marokopa. This is a centre for Marokopa and and Kiritehere Valley,. A guarantee v<ll shortly be drawn up, and if suffi cient cows can be got a co-operative factory will be erected to start next Spring, but if not iffien a factory will certainly go up # t>e following season. At present the people are hardly prepared to milk. The trouble is shortness of cows, fences and (strange to j Siy) women. There are too many!, bicbelors for the good of the place. A i matrimonial ngency is required. Could • ( not the Betti.br stext one ? [No I -thanks, we have enough troubles as itn js.—Ed.]
