Besides the races at Te Maika it is advertised elsewhere that on Easter Monday a race meeting will be held at Oparau, the programme for which will appear in our next issue. Mr Cutten, 8.M., was accompanied by his wife on tbo occasion of his visit to Kawhia on Woduer-day last, and in the afternoon a trip was made lo Rakaunai, wheae a very enjoyable picnic was held. About 20 residents were also in attendance.

S.M. Cuttan had not a very long sitting at the Kawhia C mrt on Wednesday- Mrs Perham obtained a ver diet against E. J. And iws for £32 Is, for board and lodging, the costs being £1 18s. A. Booth contested Mrs Willison’s claim to £l5 Os 3d, but Mr Cutten gave a verdict for tho plaintiff for tbe full amount and £1 14s costs.
By telegram we learn that the Hon. Mr Hogg, who n at present visiting Obura with Mr Jennings, M.P., baa consulted the member about visiting the Kawhia district. After an itinerary baa been arranged tbe Minister will communicate the date when he will visit tho district tn Mr Jennings, who will givo ample nutico to local authorities.
At the present lima there is a sort of water famine in Kawhia, .and daily a crowd of people can be observed procuring water from the town pump. It is fortunate that Kawbia has such a good water supply close at bund, and it is really surprising that our civic fathers do not di-’Cuss the question of having water laid on to the hobses.
Commenting on the decision in the recent licensing case? f alleged offences at Awakino the Waitara Mail says: —“ The position will doubtless be referred to tbe law -fficers of the Crown, for the decision alters tbe whole aspect of tho law regarding alcoholic liquor in the King Country. It ia possible, of course, that the matter will be taken to the Appeal Court.” In going over the Kawhia Peninsula one is struck with tbe oxcellenTappearance of tho cropq of nr 1 ms, potatoes, kumeras, corn, etc., gr wn by the natives, the area planted being larger than that of previous years. Taui Wetere bas the most potatoes and bas a splendid crop, with not the slightest trace of blight. Tbe varieties planted are Northern Star, Uo-todate and Peach Blossom. A -ingle root of the first named produced 74 tubers.

There was a Birge attendance at a meeting lately Leid at Ktnchak.; to dheuss tbe advisability of bolding eports there. A suggestion had betn made that the money collected (ab »t £2s* should be haaded to tbe fund to hold a regatta at Kawhia, but this was not carried, as whilst u was decided to give tho Kawhia people every assistance it was also resolved that a days’ ■port be provided at Kinohaku. Tbs late was fixed fur Wednesday, March 24tb, and a strong contingent of uffic -rs appointed to look after the sport.-, with Mr Jas. Kearns in »the position of secretary and treasurer. A long and varied programme was arranged, which is advertised at length in ibis issue. In the evening a basket social will be held in the hall.
The Raglan Show, which was held to-day (Friday) was in every way a success, the weather being beautifully fine, tbe attendance largo, and tbe ex bibits tip top. Too officials are to be complimented upon tbe energetic man □er in which ihoy worked, ably headed by the worthy president, Mr W. M Bankart. In the evening there was h concert, dance and dinner, each being well attended. Tfiere were over 25 Kawhia people present, all of whom bad a happy time. The majority left for home about 10 p.m. on Friday night in the s.s Rimu, the Kawhia bit being reached abo u 2 a.m., but the anchor bad to be <i» pped, as the lights could not be picked up.
