[By Ilex.] On Saturday last tbe match Saints v. Sinners (I mean Married v. Single) took place at Kawhia, and ended in a ' six wictft victory for tbe latter, but there certainly was not th£l much dif f&rence between tbe two eievena. The Married batted firs’, but found scoring difficult, the bowling of F. Derceourt and L. Armitage being very good. A. Symons, Babbage showed beat form with the bat, The innings c’osed fir 38. On their opponents going to th® wickets a very uneven display of bat ting was seen, out of a total of 68 F, Derec-iurt, W. Wright and 0. Reeves making 28, 18 an 3 8 respectively, Mr Byes accounting for 8 more, tbe other seven men failing to sc »ro. Harper and Newton bowled particularly wall. On tbeir second attempt the Benedict® did better, making 42, Derecourt, and Babbage thouing best form. Tbe bowling was again very gooL Th® Bachelors only wanted 18 lo win, but in making that number lost Darecoe jt, Wright, Higgins (tbrea of their best bate) and Neely, so bad. they been set a few more runs to make there would no doubt have been a very exciting finish. Harper was at bis best, bowling very fast and straight with an excellent length, and tbe ball keeping low he had the batsmen in difficulties from the start. Appended are the ’ scores :

Kinohaku has unearth®! a good bowler in L. Armitage It is the first time I have seen him play and am sore with practice he will prove above the average. He hag a nice easy action, fast, occasionally a very fast one eomiug along, and what is unueual be bowls with both feet behind the bowling crease, borne say be came down in the last shower at Kinab&ku. It is a pity they do not come Kawhia way, as already Kinohi&ku possesses two (rood fast bowlers iu Harper and Fred. Derecourt.
Jack Crotty was (laying (or the Benedicts. How I should have liked to have seen him make a score. He make one spanking bit to the delight of the spectators, but lack of practice I think told ite tale. You must come and practice with our lady team, Jack.
As announced in ycur last issue th® lady cricketers of Kawhia defeated the players from the s.s. Waitangi by 11 runs. It is pleasing to note that a great improvement is shown in the ladies’ play since they have bad a few practice game. I heard some one re mark (it is very wr ng to speak of what you hear in Kawhia I), and that some one knows wha; cricket is, “that when tbe next eleven is chosen to represent Kawhia township it at least ought lo include two bdies, viz., Mrs Newton and Mrs Gaivan.” There ie no “ leg pulling ” in that; it was spoken in real Mrs Newton played two splendid inning’ of 15 and 16 and Mr< Galvan made 14 m good ?tyle, the b iwliug of Messrs Gregg, Murilio and Texeria, which was really good—better than any bowling they have yet played against.
