Sporting Jottings.

[Bt Ilex.] “ Procrastination ig the thief of time,” If there is to be an aquatic carnival this season a move ought to be made in the matter at once, for ‘be season is getting on and the best of tbe weather (which is so essential for the success of tbe venture) will be gone.

On Wednesday next the return eric ket m itob, Ladies ▼. Gentlemen, will take place, when I hope to see a record attendance.

I thought cricket a thing of the past in Kawhia, but thanks to {be ladies (what should we do without them ?) considerable interest in the game ha? been aroused, so much so fhat I hope next season to see teuni? and cricket both in full swing. Whilst on the cricket topic I should like to propose that a grand cricket ball be held shortly, when all cricketers and their friends around tbe barbuur be cordially invited. Furthermore, 1 sug Rest that tbe ladies cricket team attend the ball in their neat cricket dreese?, hats, of course, excepted. The proceeds of the ball I would like to be de voted towards buying matting for the pitch, which we are sadly in need of, and it would be a valuable asset to the club when rewsitated next season. I am sure that tbe hearty co-operation of the ladies could be relied on for this even;, and I think they would be all starters.

Clem Hill has definitely decided not to make tbe tour to England with the Australian cricketers this year. His batting will be much missed, for he was a most consistent scorer on English wickets. Twice he has topped the cep.tury iu test matches in England, vvi , 136 at Lords in 1899 and 119 at Sheffield in 1902. Three other Australians have performed the feat of making two centuries in test matches —J. L. Murdoch, 8. E. Gregory and V.Trumper.
