Mr and Mrs H. J. Durham left for Auckland on a holiday trip by the s.s. Waitangi on Tuesday last. Mr Gibbons, the new postmaster ak Kawbia, arrived by the s.s, Waitangi on Tuesday (accompanied by his wife), and took up his duties the following day. Miss Coady, who has been transferred from the Kawhia to the Wellington Post Office, left by coach on Thursday morning, intending to proceed to her destination via the Main Trunk Line.

Mr and Mrs Humphreys and family, of Hauturu, and Mr Humphrey’s brother and two daughters, of Palmerston North, are spending a fort night’s holiday io Kawhia, and are staying at “ St. Elmo,”

Mr M. Forsyth, of the Bridges Department, paid a visit to Kawhia during the week, in connection with the erection of the bridge over the Waiharakake River, which has jmit been commenced by Mr J. E. Scott. We are pleased to notice Dr C. Campbell Jen kids about again, after being laid aside for some weeks with a broken leg. Although our popular medico has now discarded the crutches it will be some time yet before he walks without limping.

A pleasing ceremony was performed at tha Kawhia Post Offica on Monday morning when Miss Coedy was made a presentation prior co her transferrance to Wellington. The present was a handsome pursa, a shield upon which had the following inscription ; —“ Presented to Miss C. A. Coady by friends in the Kawhia County. January, 1909 ” Inside the purse rested more than ten bright golden pieces. Mr T. 0. Turnbull attended on behalf of the post office officials around the harbour and Mr P. J. M’Cartby represented the public. In making the presentation Mr Turnbull made a nice speech, thanking Miss Coady for her many kindnesses and wishing her health, happiness and prosperity in the future. Mr M'Carthy also made a few remarks, to which Mies Coady briefly but feelingly responded.
