Marokopa Regatta and Races.
- ""—3 There- a l» r g e gathering at Marokopa on New Year’s Day, the os occasion being tbe holding of the fourth annual regatta, a good number of Kawhia and Kinohaku residents be ing amongst the assemblage. The settlers turned out in full force, and *ne day being fine a most enjoyable day was spent. The events were numerous and varied, each was well contested and watched with the greatest interest. Besides the events below there were racee for the coildren, besides which swings and seesaws had been erected for their use. Mrs Willison had a booth on the . g'ound and did an excellent business. Each of the officers worked energetically, chief amongst whom we noticed Messrs J. and M Kinnane, P. and F. Bell, Smith, Kerr, Kupi, Retemeyer, J. Willison, and last, but not least, Secjetary Ross. The following are the results:—

OPENING OF TdE TOWN HALL In the evening an important event took place—the formal-opening cf the recanily erected town hall. Tbe building is a substantial one, standing on a site presented by Mr J. Willison, -the main room being 40ft. x 24ft., and tbe anti-room 12fc. x 40ft. Mr Frame has erected the hall well, at a cost of £75, and so liberally have the sub scriptions ojme in that then is only about £l5 owing now. • Messrs J. Willisoßi, J. Kinnane and Klein have been elected trustees. There was not a very large attend ance at tbe concert. Dr 0. Campbell Jenkins had the honour of declaring the hall open and in doing so oomph men ted the settlers upon the result of their efforts. The programme was then proceeded with as follows: Overture, piano and zither, Messrs E Anbin and Saunders; songs, Messrs L. Armitage, Aubin, Hetit, and Dr Jenkins; recitations, Mr Wilson and DjlJenkins ; farce, Messrs Ogilvie, F. Templsman, Saunders, Wculdes, T. Giles, F. Bell and J. Wilson. The hall was afterwards cleared for dancing, fully 50 couples taking the flour. And it is a floor too, put down
especially for dancing. Messrs Aubin and Saunders provided the music, Mr M. Kinnaue actini as MC. An exoellent sppper was handed round, supplied by Mr H Randall. There were races tbe following day, but these (and other items) will be reported next issue.
