MABOKOPA BIVBII. Mr P. 0. Rose, secretary of the Kiritehere Settlers* Association, wrote asking the Council’s co-operation in extending the functions of the Kawhia Hsrbour Board eo as io include the Marokopa River. The settlers there were anxious to see the river improved and were quite reedy to pay harbour rates, and he presumed that the Board would require to re-adjust the area so as to go as far south as Tiru® Point and Waikawhau. He wished to know it the Burd could include the country therein its area. The Chairman raid that it could not be -lone as the Board was al present constituted. Or Babbage recognised the necessity of including she Marokopa and Kirit. t-re district, as it would be a good 1 thing for those places w4l ,4 .la - i

wbia. Bat that could not be done until the boundaries were extended. Ibe Chairman said that what was wanted was a properly constituted Harbour Board, Some settlers who used the Marokopa River were not willing to be included in the County yet wanted to Come into the Harbour Board, which was impossible. The only way the difficulty could be solved was to extend the county. Some day hey would have to get a Bill through the House and they wanted to see that all lands ever likely to be interested in the Kawhla Harbour were included. He moved—“ That the Association be informed that it has the matter in its own hands, as the extention of the county boundary would also mean the extension of the powers of the Harbour Board.” The motion was seconded by Cr Babbage and carried. A THREATENING EVIL. Cr Babbage drew attention to the encroachment of rabbits into the County, they having been seen both at Aw*rna and Oparau. They should ask the Government l-o do something to check the spread. Kawhia w<*e a clean County so far and it would be rough if the Government allowed the rabbits to come in. Ur Jonathan said tha*; these pests were harboured on the native land. If the land was settled the danger would not be so great. This wat. another reason why the native areas should be settled. Or Babbage : Yes ; and Crown sections too. The Government have bad blocks for eight years and won’t bring them out, simply waiting fur increased values. Cr Jonathan : And increased rabbits and noxious weeds. It was decided 10 bring the question under the notice of the Stock Department. GKNICRAL. Certain questions relative to the surveying of the Harbour Endowments were discussed in committee, and it was decided to place i:he matter before ! the Commissioner of Crown Lands | when he vidted the district.

Mr E. W. Buckeridge surveyor, attended and presented a skeleton plan in connection with ths proposed reclamation of land fronting the town. In reply to a question tbe Clerk stated that over £lOO in r&tee had been lately collected. Iu referring to the expending of I thirds Cr Babboge mentioned that on the Awaroa-Maboe read during the past year shout £lBO had been spent. Accounts amounting to £8 Ils, expenses of witnesses in tbe recent case of Quin v. the Council, were passed for payment. Only two tenders were received for work on tbe Waitetuna-Aotea road, that of J. Ramsey for £47 4s being accepted, Cr Wright asked for authority to spend money on the road between Lemon Point and Te Maika road.—The Chairman informed the new councillor that he could expend £5 between meetings without authority.
