(from a CORRESPONDENT.' A meeting of ratepayers wa- held at the residence of Mr L'empleman on ■;b& for purpose of seise*, ing a candidate for tbe Teharoa Riding, Mr J. P. Wright being voted to tbe chair. After a lengthy discussion a ballot was taken Mr J. Wright being declared successful.'' My £*T»»rson acted as scrutineer. Hr Wrigt# was tbe recipient of hearty enngratntetions on being ihe successful candidate and he responded in » very feeling and sincere manner thanking ths ratepayers for the honour conferred upon him and stating that he would use his best efforts for the benefit of his riding and the county generally. He made ap<« cial mention of the foot that ths Wbakapirau Valley had bean sorely neglected and that be was fully cognisant of its present urgent requirements, having acquired considarabte personal experience of this portion of He pledged himself to support ihe following platform, viz.:—

To support and bring forward measures to curtail county expenses, specially noting the fact that countv e.rpeuses were too great according to the revenue. That the press, at ail times be open to the public to diBcu»3 the actions of councillors and county business generally.
