PROHIBITION.
(to the editor.) Sib, —A fetter re Prohibition ap| ea red in your issue of October 2nd. An example by the Roman Catholics o‘ America is set to all denominations o> religion, and all must admit that a <U nomination so outspoken and to tbe point on the evils of the drinking of the p jfeonous liquid called alcoh 1 must receive our hearty support. It so culled ’Christi-m denominations paid more attention to tbe present helping of tbeir adherents and wasted less time harping about ancient supers.itions we would have no use for aaloin keepers and less for that poisoning parasite the sly gr >g seller. The hotel keeper is blind to the misery his trade causes; he thinks solely of what he can make, and if all acted in a true spirit of Christianity as taught to those afflicted by the drink curse they would vote prohibition. No good in any form qaa ever come by the continuation of tbe whhky and beer bare, as alcohol is do stimulant—it weakens all the organs of tbe body. We who do without it altogether are stronger, healthier and happier In all prohibition electorates things go on much more smoothly than where grog is used. In the large towns, the working class, often, instead of g >ing home after work is over, go io a pub where many stay until their last 3d ia gone. Who suffers ? The children, wife and the state are robbed by this foolish vice. We condemn the Chow for smoking opium, why not condemn tbe sale of alcohol.—Yours, etc., PHILISTINE.
