The New Dairy Regulations.
The proposed dairying regulations to ensure cleanliness, etc., have been sub mitted to Parliament. A brief survey will be of interest to local milkers. First, come the fees for registration, which will be compulsory before a supplier will be permitted to send milk to a factory. The fees are fixed as follows:—Not more that two rows in milk, one shilling per annum ; more than two, but not more than ten cows in milk, ten shillings per annum, The following provisions are embodied in the regulations under which dairying may be carried on : • Every dairy shall be provided with a cowshed suitable for milking purposes. The floor of every cowshed shall be formed of concrete or other material impervious to The inside of the walls and all internal woodwork of every cowshed shall be thoroughly coated with lime whitewash, aud recoated at least twice a year , All manure and other offensive matter shall be removed to a position not less than 30 ft from every cowshed within two hours after each milking* and th© floor of th abed thoroughly cleaned. No milk-house or milk-stand ah* f be within 30 feet, or if on the lee” «>£ aide (with respect to prevailing w fip hen within 60 feet of any cowshed, st t « ockyard, milking yard, fowlhouse, eve., or within 50 yards of any pigge y. No cowshed, milking yard, or stockyard shall bo within 30 feet of any stable, fowlhenge, fowlrun, calf pen, trough from which calves ar© fed, manure heap, cesspool, ©loset, urinal, or liquid man nt e tank, or within 50 yards of any piggery. No cowshed shall be within 30 yards of any dwellinghouse. There arc also provisions for th* ensuring of cleanliness aud the proper cleaning “of the cans and otter utensils. All cows must bear a conspicuous metal label marked with the owner’s name, and every dairyman shall have his name legibly painted in letters not less than Siu in height on a conspicuous part of every vehicle used for the conveyance of milk from his dairy. Every dairyman shall, imruedletely after milking (a) strain all milk through an approved strainer; (h) where the milk is not immediately separated cool it by a method approved by tho inspector; (e) where the milk is immediately separated, forthwith cool the cream by a method approved by the inspector,
