(FROM A CORRESPONDENT. > Mr Burd (District Engineer), Mr Forsyth (Inspectorof Bridges- and Mr Bathe (Road Engineer) gave us a visit last week. While here they laid off the wharf site opposite Me Wil ison’s store, proposed blasting the rocks at entrance of river about 20ft, and also expressed themsei res in favour of sow iug sand grass to stop the drift into the river, which latter is tube snagged as far as the depth of water will allow navigation. ' A meeting of settlers was hsld in the mill office on tbe fifth, when there was a discusrion about the wharf site, half the meeting being in favour of the one laid out, the other half being of the opinion that it should b> further down the river; they also decided to o»ll a meeting on the 3rd October to discuss the advisability of joining •he Kawhia Coun&y Council. Mr Wouldes agreed to cw.rry the mail for another twelvemonths, via i’omorangi. There was grea; disappointment here on account of the Kawhia and Oparau footballers not turning up on | Saturday. Word was sent out all over l the district that they were coming and \ a great crowd turned up. Harry Randall worked hard night and day, aud had a good spread ready fur the hungry ones. Curses were loud and deep [We must say that the Kawhia footballers are not to blame as they knew | nothing of the match it being arranged —or not arranged—by an irresponsible Oparau footballer.] The s.s. Pitoitoi arrived on Monday wiih a full cargo.
