Awaroa.

(from our own correspondent.) The weather has been exceptioaally fine for this time of the year and I think quite a record for J aly and Aug* ust months. There have been no less than 32 frosts since the first of July, to Augu*t 17. This I think can ba put down as another record. We can do with a little {rain sow to freshen the grass up, as in some place, it to:>ks rather brown. Ewes are lambing very freely just now, and if the weather keeps mild there will ba soma flue early lambi One settler has over sixty lambs already and expects his ewes to finish lambing this month, and several other settlers have from 12 to 20 young lambs. Very few from this part of tbe district visited Auckland to see the Fleet* but those who went give very glowing accounts and tell us all what we have missed, etc. Some of the natives who went are highly amusing with their descriptions and explanations of what they saw in Auckland. One told ms, “ Too many Mericans, too many Poketeas. All the same the grass ; all same rakau, the bush—no man count.” I said, “ How many people, you think f a'ifty thousand ?” The native looked bewildered and said too, “ Fifty tousand I tink.” He then went on to explain, “ Auckland all fire." I said r “ Burned, down.” “ No, no,” he said, as he fumbled in bis pocket for a b x of mutches and strack some to show me how the city was ablaze with lights. Two gangs of men are ainut to start on the Kai rim ii road, and I believe it is the intention of the Government to put this road right through t) the Awaroa road this season.
