(to the editor. Sir,—In yotu-report of Kawhia Council’s meeting in tbs issue of the 17th I note with

surprise, it has been decided to finance the guarantee of the Marokopa telephone oat of Harbour Board funds. Now-, I think t is funny business, for the County Council to deal with Harbour Board’s revenue in this ree and easy manner, as at the time of racing tho loan for harbour works we were told by the chairman that the rate would never be collected, bat I am afraid it will be in the near future if a steppage is not put to leakages of this sort. I also notice tint the Chairman takes relit for the roads being open and saya “if they are blocked it is the fault of the ratepayers,” I would like this statement to be explained,—Yours, ROAD OPENER. Kinohaku, 20/7JOB.
