OPARAU BRANCH. \ meeting of the Oparau Branch of lhe above (which is now political) was held in the school room on the 18th inst., Mr A. Wright ’ 1 Ihe chair. Mr Davis asked Mr Mackenzie for an oxplanai on relative to the recap‘.i- n of tho Oparau remits at the Provincial Conference.—Tbe explanation offered was satisfactory, and resolution oarlied that more time shor’d be allowed at the Conference to allow matters of importance to the country to be fully dheussed. Only five minutes was al lowed delegates to speak on remits and they were debarred from replying, he r cathe business was rushed through. It was resolved that the Government be asked to complete the Ngatunui ro*d, which would save 10 miles in the j >urney to Pirongia, and also to erect a bridge over tbe Mangati stream. Tue following resolutions were also carried:—“ That the Government be a ked lo erect a bridge at the Oparau Ferry, and construct tbe road between there and Kawhia ” ; “ That Sir J. G. Ward be asked to see that all settlers got fair play, and that tbe promise made by Mr James Mackenzie, C >m missions? of Crown Lands, that all those who bought their grass seed gut a remission of one year’s ;rent be car ried out, as many settlers are almost on their beam euds, and are compelled to borrow from Advances to Settlers ” ; “ That tbe Premier De asked to take prompt stops to connect the Kawhia Harbour by rail with the Main Trunk Line.”-
