Kawhia Harbour Railway.
At a meeting of the Auckland Rail* ways League, held on Monday the Hon. W. W. M‘Cardie, representing the Kawbia League, advanced tbo claims of ftba district for a railway to that settlement from Ibe Main Trunk line. They desired to obtain access for the whole district Io the deep waters the Harbour Over 100,000 acres of land had recently been takeu up in the district, while there was believed to be a coal seam extending right through from Huntly to Mokau. There were valuable de posits of ironsand and lime at Kawb a, and there was room for a population which would exceed the Auckland district. He believed that it would soon be found necessary to duplicate the main trunkfrom Auckland to Frankton; from Wellington to Marton ; and construct the Kawbia line, which would ease traffic on the main line considerably. If it required teu million pound?, aa Sir Joseph had stated iu Kawhia, to complete the railways asked for in the Dominion, be thought each an amount ehonld be spent. They deairud assistance in obtaining a vote on fthe Estimates for the Kawhia line. The Chairman expressed the sympathy of like meeting, but said that it would not do to take up the agitation of two many works at one time. When the occasion arose to ask for the lino to Kawhia the League would not be found wanting. On tbo motion of Mr M‘Cardie, it was decided that the matter receive the consideration of the committee.
