THE PREMIER'S VISIT.
(to the editor.) Sir, —The first impression of a place usually lasts, and in view of the fact that the Premier is to visit here short ly, I would urge that aometbing be done so as to make chat personage re member Kawhia— not as an isolated do id place, but as a town that is as go ahead as its environments will permit. Trie wharf could be decorated in a similar manner to which it was when the Governor was supposed to visit this port, and I feel sure that the energy necessary would not bo futile. The corner in front of Mr Faiwasser’s office badly needs attending to, and if the remnants of logs, limbs ol treea B eta..
were cleared away it would improve the appearance of the town for all time. A similar work is also necessary on the road near the Post Office, the appearance of both mentioned places being a standing disgrace. There is a certain amount of talk aa to the \ sit of Sir Joseph not being taken too much no- ice of, the malcontents alluding to the fact that although the late Premier was lionised on the occa don of hia paying a call, yet no prac ticai benefits resulted. Such may be the case but I think that kind of clatter ia ridiculous. Be it remembered that accompanying the Prime Minuter will be several Members of Parliament and perhaps a boat of reporters it be hoves us, therefore, to do these people we ll , or if not they may go away with a very poor opinion of Kawhia. I trust that a big effort will be nude to enter tain the visitors in a manner becoming their positions, aa this ia probably lue last place the Premier will visit before sespion opens, and if we fall short of the welcome other places have aocor dad him, then it cannot ba expected that our many wants will receive the attention required.—Yours, etc., DIPLOMAT.
