Farmers’ Union.

Ai the Conference in Auckland laei week, the following motions proposed by delegates from this district were dealt with :—|

Mr W. J. 'Shaw (Awairoa) moyad. and it was agreed: “That the Govern* meat Roads Department be asked to furnish an account showing how the loading tor roads on bush lands has bean spent, so that settlers may have sone idea of what becomes of the money on which they are paying interest."

On behalf of Kinohaku branch Mr W. J, Shaw moved, and it was agreed "That the Government be requested to erect their portion of fence on Crown reserves joining occupied lands, as the system of leaving the responsibility to owner of the adjoining lands is con* sidered unjust, as it is unreasonable.” Mr G. H. Mackenzie (Oparau) mov* ed, “That as after repeated efforts, it appears to be hopeloss to induce the Government to fulfil its engagements with regard to the construction of roads *nd bridges, giving access to land taken up on iVu ’’«jgwiaoding that the roads would be made, A* 3 t^er desirable that the Farmers’ Union should urge the Government to com* pensate holders of land who have suffered from the Government’s breach of faith in this matter.” Numarous complaints were made as to the failure of the Government to act up to expessed promises, and it was resolved in the meantime to urge the Department io make good its promises in respect of Awaroa and Oparau districts. Mr G. H. Mackenzie (Oparau) moved: “That considering the present troubles throughout the Dominion from unoccupied land this conference bring all possible influence to bear on the Government to have all native land individualised, the native courts and laws relating to n&hve lands dooe away with, all natives to have the rights and priviliges and be allowed to come under the same legislation as whites,” The resolution was referred to the Colonial Conference.
