Thus the Sydney Bulletin on New Zealand’s finances: Maoriland’s mad borrowing policy is already beginning to bit the foolish country in unexpected places. The State isn’t merely issuing loans in large lumps ; anybody can look in at almost any Government office at any hour and add a trifle to tbe debt. Even in Sydney anybody oan get accommodated the same way ; and in its own rickety home the Maorilanrd Post Office Savings Bank is another debt-manufacturing agency. The result is that in the last two years the Maoriland bank fixed deposits have shrunk £132,805; yet there is a steady demand for more advances—the latter have increased by £3,765,000 in two years. Of course, if the banks haven’t got the money they can’t lend it; so dear money looms ahead, and for the manufacturer and producer that means trouble.” A RUSH ON IT. -What? DERBY tobacco in the new TWO OUNCE TINS. It’s splendid.
