Daring the week the final gam r 8 in connection with tbe trophy presented to the local club by Mr R. A. Abb >t have all been completed. Mr F. W. Newt™ (10 on) beat Jonathan (scratch), 50—-26, whilst Fal wasser (12 on) beat Newton (12 on) in tbe last game 50—47, thus becoming the pess'Bsor of the handsome racquet*
On Wednesday, March 25tb, a tournament was commenced on the local courts, bat owing to the wet wea her could not be completed on that ay. There were many excellent game, more particularly between Mrs M*C*rthy and Mias Stevens in the Ladies' Siegle Handicap and Jonathan and Pettit in tbe Gents Championship. Since then most of the games have been pliyed off, with the following results;— Ladies’ Championship Single?, Dr. C. Campbell Jenkins* trophy—Miss Stevens beat Mrs Newton, 30—14 ; Mrs M‘Carthy beat Miss Stevens, 30 18, and won.
Ladies Singles, Mrs Chase’s Trophy —Miss Thompson (10 on) beat Mrs Newton (10 on), 80—27 ; Mrs M‘Cartby (owe 10) beat Miss Stevens (2 on) 3U—29 (after five deuces) ; Mrs M*Carthy (owe 10) beat Miss Thompson (10 on) and won. Ladiee’ Doubles, Mr Mason’s Trophy Mrs M'Carthy aud Miss Stevens (scratch) beat Mrs Newtou and Miss Thompson. 40—35, and won. Gents’ Championship, Dr C. Campbell Jeukins’ Trophy——Pettit beat Jonathan, 50—48 ; Pettit beat F. W. Newtou, 50—40, and won.
Genta’ Singles, Mrs Jonathan’s Trophy—W, Davies (20 on), beat Jonathan (2 on) 30—29 (aftSr five deuces); Frank Newtou (15 on) beat L. Davies (20 on), 30—24 ; F. Newton (10 on) boat Frank Newton (15 on) 80—29; Pettit (owe 10) baat Aubin, 30—25 ; W. Davies (20 on) beat Pettit (owe 10), 30—26 ; Newtou (10 od) beat W. Dayies (20 on), 30—23, and won.
Genta’ Handicap Doubles, Mr Mason’s Trophy—Aubin and Frank Newton (18 on) beat Jonathan and A. Jonathan (20 on) 40—39 (after four dueces) ; Pettit and Newton, (owe 5) beat Aubin and Frank Newton, 40— 39. The final between Pettit and Newton aud Davies Bros (20 on) has yet to be played. Combined Doubles, Mrs M'Carfhy’e Trophy—Jonathan and Mias Stevens (owe 5) beat Newton and Mrs M‘Carthy (5 on) 40—37; Pettit and Mrs Newton (owe 5) beat Jonathan aud Miss Stevens (owe 5) 40—36; Pettit and Mrs Newton (owe 5) beat Aubiu and Miss Thompson (18 on) 40—37 and won.
Yesterday (Thursday) a number of Kawhia players left to compete in the tournament at Hamilton on the 18th and 20th inst, The players intend going to Te Aroba to have a match on the 2 let and play Te Awamatu on tbe 22nd.
