Awaroa.
(fkom our owx cofhespokdknt.) Tbe weather seems to have fairly broken up, and winter is setting m very early this year. The r oads, tracks, eta., are beginning to get the winter coating of mud and slush. The beginning of April is rather early foe this state of affairs and if the weather con« tinues wet muoh longer it means along winter ; anyway as far as our roads as a means of access are concerned. A month ago the cry was no rain, and now tbe cry is too much rain. Most of the settlers in this district have just about finished grass seed sowing, although some who were depends ing on getting seed from the Government have been left lamenting. Now they have to make arrangements ta buy seed at double tbe price, and roast cannot be obtained at any price. It would have been far better for all if the Government had said nothing about helping with grass seed. Why make fish of one and fowl of another ? The whole businesß has been nothing but red tape and humbug from the first, and is only another instance of the many. Tbe Government help with seed will not be forgotten in a burry* and will help to tell its tale at next election. A few settlers who bought their own seed and got it sown earlv were lucky, both as regards price, and growth of grass ; many of the burns are beginning to show up quite green, and if tbe weather keeps mild for another month will be a fair amount of young grass, rape end turnips fit to feed off soon. Cine or two lines of cattie and several lines of sheep went co the Waikato la t week, it being imnoeeible te hold them owing to the shortage of feed* This is where the shoe pinches—baring to sell now on a verv low market, and later cn, having to buy, most likely on a very high one.
