THE MAROKOPA TELEPHONE

(to THE EDITOR.) Sir, —On behalf of the Kiritehera settlers I have to thank Mr Jonathan for bringing this long outstanding matter to a head. When I'offered to collcet Mr W. J. Shaw gave me verbally a guarantee to get signed. I copied it down word for word and every one on my list who paid signed it also, and ail guarantees were sent in at the same tirno as the money. I might say it took four hard travelling days to get all in. I have never received the slightest intimation from the County Council that the guarantees were net in order. As I said before the guarantees were worded according to Mr Shaw’s instructions, and if after consideration the Council considered the form of the guarantee was not binding enough surely they could have come to their decision six. months ago, as that is the length of time this matter has been hung up. However, I trust the County Clerk is sending to me a form of guarantee wLhh is satisfactory to the Council, and I will immediately take it round to get all signatures. I trust that the members of the Kawhia County Council wifi with this explanation see that until they sent me a form of guarantee satisfactory to them it was useless for me tog? round again to the subscribers, Iu conclusion I strongly object to the Chairman replying to Mr Jonathan, stating “I had not tho slightest need to ask Mr Jonathan any question abc it it.” I happen to hold a letter in ;my possession signed by four subscribers fempowering ma to do so.—Yours, etc., PERCY C. ROSE.
