Kawhia Harbour Board.
ORDINARY MEETING. ;.Tbu usual mating of tbs above was held on Saturday, 14tb, when there were present—Ora W. J. Shaw (chairman), G. G. Jonathan, A. W. Babbage, H. Armstrong, H. Shaw and A. N. Norton. HARBOUR ENDOWMENTS. A lengthy letter was read from the Hon R. M‘Nab, Minister of Lands, notifying what powers the board had to lease the endowments.
The Chairman remarked that the letter staled that the endowments co all be dealt with at once, and ho thought it advisable to do so quickly, as be bad had many letters asking when tbe land was likely to be opened. Tbe Minister of Lands had recommended that the endowments be leased in 8(K)-aore blocks, which ha thought way too small, aud he would suggest thaj two councillors inspect the block before tbe surveyor was put on.— On the proposal of Or Armstrong, Crs W. J. Shaw and A. W. Babbage were deputed to go through the block and report. ACCOUNTS The following accounts were passed for payment ;— fl. Pettit "8s 6d, W. Morgan £2 Os 6J, F. Hosking 9s, P. Ward 3.- fid, wharf labour £2 2s 9d, C. F. E. Barton 12s lOd. WHARFAGES. A lengthy letter was read from Mr T. D. Hamilton complaining that the N. 8. 8. Co., landed goods for their men and coal 'or tbe Rothesay but did not pay wharfages thereon, and asking why ihi. was so. Tas 6)al, etc., landed did not appear on the manifest either. The Cbairman.' thought it was time ehis ma .o r waa brought under the notice of the Board. He could not understand why the Northern 8.8. 00., hsd been exempt ao long. The Company ought to pay as only the Government goods were exempt from wharfage. Or Armstrong : This is the first time I ever beard of the exemption and 1 move that in future tbe Northern
8,8. Co., pay, the wharfages tbe same ns anybody el-e, and also that all stuff lauded must appear on the manifest. The motion was agreed to, and a letter ordered sent to Mr Hamilton lb inking him (or his information. THE LOANS. Tbe Secretary \ > the Treasury wrote authorising thj board to raises loan of £2OOO, and cancelling the previous au-:h rity for a loan of £5OO. Cr Jonathan advocated going on with the arrangements at once, before the election. Or Armstrong: Oparau will be very pkased to have she loan raised. The Clerk . Tbe Board is making more than £lO a month clear from wharfages at tbe present time. Only £BO a year is wanted to pay the inter* eat and the income is over £lOO. Then there will be the endowments beside.
