KAWHIA TOWN BOARD.

(TO THE EDITOR ) Sis,—Re Kawhia Town B .ard. During the past week or so there -tan been a slight agitation on the part f perhaps two ratepayers, who come under the jurisdiction of the Town District, to have the Town Board abolished. I now see an advertis<me*

iu your valuable columns in refereuce to a petition that can be signed I most certainly consider thi- quite the wrong way to go about any hi'ug that is of public interest, and suggest the* those peopla who advocate re’rogr»de step should convene a meeting of rate payers, and then pa> forth >heir reasons for doing so. Then ‘he m« t«*r could be thoroughly gone into and d aision arrived at after he .ring b.rh aides of the ques<ior>. A- n is I find that an attempt has been made to mis represent tbe position and therefore mislead ratepayers. I advocate no hole and corner moyes, and say right out that whatever is done let it be done in a free e.nd open manner. Olaudie tine intrigues were Kawfaia’a failing at one time, and, I for one, now will not favour a repetition of the old wiles and hope to see everything done fair, square aud above board, which is the only way to gain ultimate success. Trusting I am not encroaching too much ou your valuable space.—Yours, etc.. .. GEO. Acting Chairman K. T. B

(TO THE EDITOR.) Sir, —In last weeks is we of your valuable paper I notice io your advertising columns a notice that was evidently written by some creature with a “pain in his stomach,*’and “the sooner it is done away with the better.’’ The notice I refer to is in connection with a petition asking for abolishment of tbe Kawhia Town Board, —what an absurdity. Goodness knows who this pushing individual is, but by the way the advertisement is drawn out I should say he was soma obsolete old (smooth) bore that detest* progress of any description, and probably one that was averse even to the Conntiea Act being brought into force. It ie not at all likely that the ratepayers and peo plo who are interested in Kawhia wii be mislead by such ignominious attempts at a dig in the back, end 'h-.sc who are interested in the district as a whole cauuot by any means offer the symou- ' tby in the direction asked f *r. White writing I feel foolish tn being beguiled , iuto even taking uotioe of tbe advtrrisement, but then there are peraepoi few people who may sign the pention 1 fur want <>f thought. Ratepayers have to think just a little and they will see , the utter absurdity of this proposition. Even the person who put- the advertisement iu the paper was ashamed to add bis name, cr perhaps ho thought that if he did it would Jgive the whok show away, and no doubt it would.— PROGRESS*
