Kawhia Town Board.

ORDINARY MEETING.

The usual meeting of the above body was held in Mr Falwasaer’g Office on Monday evening last, when there were present—Messrs Jonathan (in tbe chair), Turrell and Fatwasser. THB RATES. The Clerk reported that the total amount of the 4d rate struck amounted to £5B sb. The sum collected to date was £BO Is 4d, whilst £8 4ts 4d had to be deducted on account of Te Para aud Karewa sections, which had been thrown up. There was a sum of £l9 19a 4d outstanding, chiefly owing by absenteeß, whose addresses con Id nt bo ssoertained. It was decided to issue final notices, and to Bummonst. for recovery immediately the time allowed by the Act had elapsed. FINANCIAL According io a report made by the Clerk the Board’s account at the bank is on Credit to the amount of £5 6s 3d. BAND INSTRUMENTS In reply to an enquiry from the Board as to where the instruments of the Kawhia Brass band were, Mr Hartmann wrote stating that he handed over the leadership to Mr Duncan, therefore be did not know. The Clerk stated that he had ascertained where eight of tbe instruments

were. There were 11 altogether. It. was resolved that the various people having the instruments in tbeir possession be written to, asking that they be sent in to the Board’s office* THE RESERVES. A letter was read from tbe Minister of Lands notifying that several reserves in tbe township had been vested in the Board for municipal purposes.

The Clerk was instructed to Bee about the leasing of Section 3, block IX, which has also been vested in the Board. Section 3, block V, was left in tbe hands of Crs Jonathan and Falwasser to deal with, DRAINAGE. A discussion on the drainage of the town took place, and it was eventually decided that the matter be left in the hands of Crs Falwasser and the Clerk, who were asked to look up tbe Acta, with a view of ascertaining what power the Board have to compel the owners to drain their sections. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—J. Gourlay £1 7s, J. K. Newton £2 10s, Valuation Department £1 Is, H. H. Pettit 15a, P. Ward 10s.
