Oparau.

(FBOM OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The quantity of ashes being deposited will make the land grow much more grass and of a better quality. Iu some places log*, stumps and trees are annihilated, r deep depo t of potash remaining to help manure tbe uuburned portions. After ail the old burns are resown, Oparau will be one of the best grazing and fruit growing districts iu New Zealand. As a fruit growing centre it has already proved itself the deep clay loam existent here responds quickiy to agriculture or horticulture, giving immense crops with little exertion. Truly this is a fruitful land for those wh > have the go and knowledge to work it. The road up the Oparau river to Newton’s, Perham’s, Elliott’s and Scott’s farms is not safe. There is a 200 ft drop of smooth saudstooe perpendicular with the Oparaa, and there is only six inches to coma and go ou, with a rot*enoutside clay fiiiingcracked. Slips are common and tbe road has now several trees irom Mackenzie’s burn, but off the ro id side, blocking progress.

A landing shed is badly wanted. We are handicapped in this matter. If we evsn had one at tbe ferry it would help, the ferry is the best landing to load at.

A representative of Messrs Mason Struthers, Christchurch, was at Oparan re dairy factory at Kawhia on home separator principle. It would pay to have one central factory at Kawhia, as one management doos.

Tbe Government is doing a little to tbe Oparaa to Ferry R ia d, bur so far nothing further has eventuated regarding tne Oparau ferry bridge promised.

A meeting was called at Oparau to c insider the decision of a meeting at Kinohaku, re the roads. No one was present, as all ware attending to fires and stock, but several were interviewfl by yours truly and all are oi opinion hat not only the Government, but also the County Council has neglected to give the tracks (called roads) proper ittention. Tbe road up tbe Oparau river is at prasent bidly in want uf an overhaul. Oparau settlers d.iat say much, bat nvxt plscuon will show what they think.

Don’t forget that good printing can b© done at the Qmce
