Valedictory.
At the conclusicn of the sitting of tbe S.M. Court at Kawhia on Wodoes day last, Mr W. A. Mason, J.P., rose and said r—“Mr Norihotofs: On be hall of myself and fellow townsmen I wish to express regret that perhaps this is the last time you will preside at the court here. Wa (eel that at your hands the welfare of the oommumip has been Well cared for and trust that our genuine, sympathy and appttecUon will exist 1 wherever you may go, and hope that you will be long spared to fill the position you now occupy. (Ap plause). Mr Northcroft thanked the residents for their kind exores'ious, as voiced by Mr Mason. When lie tirat oadie there were vreat diffiealties to contend with, bat lie believed that shortly Kawhia would have wbat it should have had a long time ago—a new court huuise. Kawhia was as yet email, bat it would not be many years before it was a much more impbrtttft W the Kawhia Harbour was the key bole of the whole of th* Waikato, and the basin ess should all oome this way. It would uot belong either before A coart was established ou the other side of the harbour, as it could uot be exnect ed that back block flettlors would leave their homes for some days Ao attend Court. This was defeating the ends of justiue, and it. was right that thecourt nh >ald beestablisbed in oat-back places In a measure he was sorry to ieave-tbe Kawhia district out of his circuit, bat he recognised that he was n ?tas young aa he once was; if it had not been for that he would never have consented to giving it up. His successor, he trusted, would get on as well with the people as be had done, and concluded by wishing the settlers and district every prosperity. (Applause)
After the service at tbe Kawhia Congregational ch u rob uq Sunday last, the Rev. C. E. Davidson present ed Mr G. H. Wright with a handsome family Bible, as a mark of esteem from his church friends prior to hi* departure from the dtetrict. The R-v. gentleman aho announced that Mr Turvey was to b« given a teacher’* Bible from the church goers, be having been a moat diligent servant*
