Kinohaka.

(FBOM OUB OWN OOBBXSPOHDBNT.) At a largely attended public meeting of tbe Kiuohaku branch of the Farmers Union held here on January 25th, it was unanimously resolved to assist, as far as it is in the power of the Union to d > so, Mr Shaw in the coming contest for a Boat un the Auckland Land Board. All those who know Mr Shaw will agree with me wheu I say that he possesses that species of knowledge and experience which wr most require in the hard battle for oar rights and a courage too that is not daunted even by th a heaviest odds, which enables a man to fight on through sunshine and through storm with the conciousness that he is in the right and that he has no object but tbe high and noble one of doing his duty towards tbe people whom be represents. You, sir, "in your leader of last week have dealt with the administrative ability shown by Mr Shaw on local public bodies and also as to tbe wide experience he has had as a son of the soil. Consequently there is no necessity tor me to again draw the attention of your many readers to those facts, but will content myself with wishing that be may be returned by a thhmping majority; whether this wish is gratified or not, Mr Shaw can console himself with the reflection that— Tis better to have fought and lost Than never to have fought at all. The amazons of the district are making gallant efforts to distinguish themselves lately, but as per usual have failed to arrive at any defin ate plan of campaign; some of them are seeking fame but have gained notoriety instead. It often makes me wish as Buras did

Oh would that God the gift did gie us To see ourselves as others see us. There is some poor misguided fag end of humanity with tbe air of something attempted nothing done, sending post cards around for some time now and (I fesl convinced that this mis erable creature of folly, who I suppose considers itself smart by acting in this manner could easily find a more just way of spending their surplus cash and time than by attempting to degrade others and also only making donkeys of themselves ana for which nature has so generously endowed them Tbe question of a public hall was discussed here at the recent meeting of settlers. Messrs Cect y, Ke*res and J. Shaw were appointed to select a site, etc. I think there will- not be much difficulty in raising the amount neces sary to bu ; ld a suitable ball as everyone here Stems to be of the one mind in thinking that it is becoming more and more of a necessity as time goes sOn and settlement increases. • -• (FriOM AN'OTfiEB COBRESPONDBNT)

A well represented meeting of settlers took place on Saturday, 25th inst, Mr D. 0. Tynan being in the chair. The object under review was the official report as the result of tbe enquiry into the road works of tbe district, A lengthy disous.-nn took place during -jahich some strong comments were 4nade. The K*whia County C mncil's reply to tbe report having been read, a resolution was passed upholding the C luncil in their action, especially rela tive to loading money, etc.
