Sport and Pastime.
CRICKET. KINOHAKU V. KAWHIA. The fir.t mulch of tbe season was played at Kawbia on Saturday last when tbe above teams met, the result being a win for tbe home team by 6 ‘wickets aud one run. The eleveus were eaptaioed by Crotty and Pettit respectively, and neither club was fully represented. The Kawhia skipper won tbe toss, and took the field. Kinohaku only totalled 28, of which number W. Wright was top with a nicely made 11, and was going well when be was run out. Tbe bowling of Aubin and Newton was good, whilst the fielding was also smart.
Kawhia replied with 38, Newton being the top scorer with 8. Harper’s bowling was very deadly. In their second attempt Kinohaku put together 87, Wright again being on top with 15, included in whieh was a beaa'i el leg hit for five off Pettit. This left Kawhia 28 runs to get to win, which they did with the loss of only five wickets. Newton made 11 (not out), a beautiful hit giving him six. Appended are tbe scores : KINOHAKU. Fint Innings.
