Awaroa.

(from our own correspondent. ) The weather is still all that can be deeired for the farmers, nice soft showers and plenty of sunshine, although I believe iu parts of the Waikato it h-.s been far too dry, and rain is wanted for the young turnip crops. Many of tho settlers here are thinking of g-ing toHawke's'Bay and Taranaki for sheep. It is not po-.iibla to get the linos required in the Waikato at a reasonable price, and as most .-of ibis country mu~t bo stocked with sheep, we will have to seek fre?h fields to buy what we require. The sudden drop in cattle has not 1 been taken kindly by those who have had stock at late sale- 1 , and a few line l have been driven home again. Those who got in early in the season were the lucky ones. Tfie roads and bush tracks are now in most cases in fair order, although ■' iu some cases still need attention. Tne ' Kibi K’bi road has been bl >cked for i some months by slips, etc., and almc.;' 1 impassable. Abo the Awaroa-Mahoe ' road ; this road has a lot of traffic and | badly needs widening in many place l . 1 I think it|woald be very wise fur the | Government and the County Council ■ to combine and fell tbe bush say, for | one chain, or m >re where needed on > each side of the r -ad This would Ist j fhs san and wind in, and do far more I good, than spending mmey cutting I fern and rubbish throwing it on the I readonly to make bog in win'e * In most cases where settlers are living on their lah l, they have tboir frontages j filled. But the Gruwn land, na’ive • land and scenic reserves are the m in j trouble and I hope that other seUlsrs • in the Kawhia Couuty will t-ke this ) matter up and bring pressure to bear I upon the Government in this matter. I am sure if the roads were felled as I i suggest we would not have so many ‘ bad roads and bog boles in winter.
