District Horticultural Society.

FORMED AT KAWHIA. A meeting to discuss the above matter was held in the Sjbi*tl*b office on Wednesday evening last, whan there ware psesent—Mrs F. W. Newton, Rat, C. E. Dividson, Messrs Chase, F. W- and J. R. Newton, and Pettit. The Rev. Mr Davidson was voted to th® chair. The secretary pro. torn. (Mr J. K. Newton) said that be bad spoken ro a lot of people and the proposal had been received very favourably. The following donations bad been promised Rev. G. E. Davidson £1 Is, Mr W. A. Mason £1 Is, Mr H. Pettit £1 Is, Mr G. H. Chase £l, Mrs Chase 10s. Special prizes had also been pro mieed by Mrs Cowern (a pair of canaries), Mr Cowern and Mr T. D. Hamilton. Many other people had promised to become members. The report being considered satisfac* , tory, Mr Chase moved—“ That a Horticulturai Society ba i »rmed, io be called the Kawhia County Horticultural Society, and that the member-hip fee be 5s per annum.”—Becoi-ded by Mr Pettit and carried.

The. following afficer.-i were elected : Patron, Hou W W. Hurdle. M L C ; president, Mr W. A. Mason. J P. : v o -preridente, Dr C. Campbril Jenkins. Messrs F. C.iwern, VV. J. Bbaw, A. W. Elliott, W. Sobyu, A.- W. Bfo bage, XV. D. Hinnphr-y-*, T. Go d follow and G. W. Dougin ; e mmit Mesdamos F. \V N; '.'■'ton, W.Mwgm, Messrs Bi.’Com ,ij . Wil on, Chase, E F-IOT-svr, J ,n • b n, P.rji? and Durham, with power to add to th ir. number ; secretary and treasure, Mr J. K Newton. On tbiF question of a dale arising, Mr Pettit remarked th it he did not think it advisable to definitely fix a date as during Marell it waa proposed to bold a big regatta. It was probable that the Premier would be here about the sama rime, and perhaps ha could make it convenient to open the show.

It was decided that the show be held about March, 1908. Tbe meeting closed with a vote of thanks to tbe chairman and to Mr Pettit for the u’e of the office.
