The Estimates.
This year’s distribution of the political loaves and fishep, as set forth in ,tbe Public Works Estimates, seems to have fallen far short of giving general satisfaction to country members, if one may judge by the general disposition to grumble that lias been manifested in the lobbies. Jt has often been urged that another column should be added to tbe Estimates table, showing in each case the new money that is available for actual expenditure, but the Department baa not>seen its way to carry out this idea, In c*any cases tbe votes consist to a gresft extent of a reauthorisation of mvney voted last year bnt which baa been wholly ot partially unexpended. In numerous cases »he liability shown as existing at tbe end of the last financial year (Maich 31st is equal to a great proportion of the vote, and in some inetauoes it is nearly equal to the vote itself.
