Here IGois a bay colt, foaled 1901; has feet, pasterns, and bone of tbe very beet ; has great freedom of action, and is bred on the best possible lines. Examples of same line; Herd Lassie—chum pion mare of New Z-?aland—and Shepherd Lad, who has proved himself a great breeder. His sire, Heid Laddie (2868 C. 8.8.) is a powerful bay horse, foaled 14th May, 1881, bred by Mr John Templeman, St Quivox, Ayrshire. He gained the Highland Society’s first prize at Aberdeen in 1869, second at Dumfries in 1870, first at Kelso in 1872, and first at the Boyal Society’s Show at Manchester. He was got by General (322) winner of the Highland Socrety’e first prize at Inverness in 1865 ; General, by Sir Walter Scott, who gained first prize at the Hi ghland Society's Show at Damfries in 1860, and first premium at the International Show at Battersea. Jemmie Gray (1454) by Lord Lyon (4891; dam, Jessie Gray (69), by Prince of Wales (673), g.-dam, Jean, by Enterprise (281) ; g.g.-dam, Dinah, by Hercules (378), by Rob Roy (714). Enterprise (281) gained a second prize at Glasgow as a yearling, second at Highland Society ’■ Show at Glasgow, as a two-year-old ; third at Highland Society’s Show at Aberdeen, and second at Glasgow as a three-yoar-old. His sire, Lochfergns ChampiCttl (449), out of Mary, by Loohextd Champion (448) wlnnes of the first price at Highland Society's Show at Perth in 1861, the gold medal at tbe same Show at Kelso in 1863, the second prize at Royal Society’s Show at Battersea in 1862, and the Glasgow premium in 1865. Herd Laddie has only been beaten once in the show ring, and then as a three-year-old he competed against aged hones. He gained first and champion prize a Nathajla in 1890; first and champion prize and e Doherty Challenge Cup at the same show in 1891 ; the first and champion prizes at Tatars same year, Tha prizes Herd Laddie and stock have taken would fill a volume, some of them being exhibited 21 times and gaining 20 first and 8 champion prizes money value £250, as well as winning the Produce Stakes and Gold Cup twice in succession at the Boyal Show, Melbourne. Herd Laddie has proved himself one of the best horses ever imported into the Australasian colonies, having siyed prize winners too numerous to mention.
