THE LOANS. A petition was read from J. E. Scott, J. Bamfield, J. Eeville, F. Goddard, W. A. Larsen, Ll., H. J and J Woolly, J. M‘Namara, W. J., Henry and M. A. Shaw, asking that the nec essary steps be taken to raise a loan of £2500 for widening and metalling the Kawhia-Mahoenui road. The Chairman said that the object of the petition was io give the Council something to go ou, and thus save expense in advertising a loan and then having it rejected. He doubted whether this one would be carried, and suggested that it be held over. Agreed to. The Secretary to the Treasury wrote pointing out more irregularities in the papers of the Pirongia West and Kawhia loans.

The Chairman said that the plan supplied for the Kawhia loan and the special order did not agree. The plan required was not in the Land Office, Auckland, and would therefore have to be specially prepared, and may be too expensive. It had taken the authorities over a year to find this out. Cr Jonathan : It’s disgusting. The plan would cost 100 much.

The Chairman said the plan would have to be procured or the loan abandoned.

Cr Jonathan: It might cost £5O. We may have to raise another loan to pay for a plan for the original loan. Ou the motion of Urs Jonathan and Norton it was decided: “ That application be made to the Commissioner of Lands, Auckland, to supply the Council with particulars and cost of furnishing a plan of the Kawhia Riding, and the reply be left in the hands of the chairman to deal with.” a settler’s thirds.

The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland, notified that B. Nan Houte, had been acquainted of the Council’s reply to bis compaint re-the expending of his thirds, but still maintained that he had good reason for complaint, as the corners on the road had not been touched. Or Norton said that the corners had been cut off before the thirds were available, but they were used for making half-a-mile of water tables. Van Houte was then satisfied, but later on wanted 20 chains forming done, for which work there was no money. Before the corners were cut off Van Houte drove a five-horse team up to his house, and now had the best road in the Kawhia County. The Clerk was instructed to reply as Cr Norton had stated. county boundaries.

Mr A. M‘Cardie waited on the Council relative to some arrangement being made between the Waitomo and Kawhia Counties as to who should look after the boundary road, and he thought it desirable that one county or the other should attend to it. The Chairman: Would the Waitomo Couhty Council agree to an alteration of boundaries ? Mr M'Cardle thought so. At present the boundary came right down the Waitomo road. The Chairman: Yes. The settlers there have stated that they would pre fer to be iu the Kawhia County. Cr Babbage agreed that some alteration was necessary. It having been ascertained that the Waitomo County intended communicating on the matter, a decision was left over until such time. GENERAL. Cr Babbage remarked that he had been interviewed by To Kauri ratepayers, who asked that £l5 bo expended ou the Te Kauri road.—The Chairman : We cannot grant that amount. As soon as the thirds due come to band they will be expended. The Clerk (Mr J. K.
