LAND BALLOT REJECTIONS AT OPOTIKI.
(to the editor) Sib, —It is amusing to notice 1/ u report of the Opotiki land ba 1 * ignorance displayed by the Go - . meat officials responsible Ii q e evident that |he wish of the G vt- >- meat is to make this a pa up - ■tt - mens. We all know that b• n eoce aod money are required 1 uj* t Grming a success and that ihe paup * settler is always eliminat'd by : l e well-to-do farmer. Let the L » Unions in their ignorance suppjr; laud nationnli-ation, and let them pa* parper settlers on the land. Woo so if ? Why the very labour people who cry out for higher wages. Where d it • wealth of a country come from ? Nut from Labour Unions or their »m ployers. It comes from the land. If the land is settled by inexperienced paupers the expected result leads only one way—the land remains practically x as it was and these paupers are foisted by the Government onto a community that without them would advance with leaps and bounds. Therefore the first question should be, have you enough money to live on and improve your land ? If you don’t reside on the land when roads are made you will lose your section. Enforce improvement and residence clause and make the country go ahead. It is only waste of time giving proofs, we have them wherever the land is opened. Those who have not enough to start a section prosperously, should be made to save until they have, thus saving themselves useless work.—Yours etc., EXPERIENCED SETTLER.
