FOOTBALL. We believe that letters have been forwarded to both the Te Mata and Marokopa Clubs, asking :e they can arrange a visit to Kawhia to meet a local fifteen. It is rumoured that the match Oparau v. “Has bee s” is “off”. PIUOXGIA V. OPAKAC The above mat ch was played at Kitwhia on Saturday last, and resulted iic a win for Oparau by three points to nil. The teams were fairly even, but the game, (as far as an exposition of
Ifootball is oonce/ned) was disappoint - ing. Both fifteens were fairly repreuented, but Oparau had m- W of their chosen that their opponents. There was a fair number of spectators present who thoroughly enj.jycd the game, more particularly as it was the first played in Kawhia this season.
In the first spelL no score was recorded, the play being mostly iu Oparau’s territory. After the change, Oparau, with the wind, forced matters but it was not until about five minutes before time, that they scored. Slater picked up smartly, transferred] tc Perham, who threw to Tita. Tita ran a little way, and gave it to B. Atkins, who scored a nice try. The attempt at goal was fruitless. The game was played iu a friendly spirit, but as b-fore stated was not of the highest order. For the winners M. Forbes, (full-back), Tita, Tiwa, Atkins, (three quarter) Slater (half), Olive, ( wing), Atkins, Doctor and Dan Coe (forwards) played really well. Fenwick, (full), Cribb, Wanreu, Turner (thres-quarters). Cherry (half), Raudrup (five-eights), Reynolds (forward), were the best of the visitors. Rand rap played cue best game on the ground, the manner in which he stopped the rushes of the Oparau team being really marvellous. It is worthy oi note that it. would be bard to find two better full-hanka than, these two toanui had, the play ot each being far above what is generally seen iu country tetfma. Mr E. Pearce had charge of the whistle, aud gave every satisfaction, Messrs Crotty and Pettit were the line umpires.
