(from our own uorrespondknt.) At a general meeting of ibe Farmers* Union held here on Saturday evening it was decided (amongst other things) : “ That the secretary write to tbe Minister for PublicAVorks pointing out to him the necessity of Meeting a ferry at the crossing of the keke Channel.” As this >s of real importance to everyone m the district who travel that route to tbe Waikato there ought to be unanimity of opinion with reference to the proposal. It is also now recognised that this is in every way the most convenient overland route to travel stock to or from the Waikato. Another of tbe many genuine grievances veatilated at this meeting was (as usual) the matter of roads. This complaint seems to be a chronic one in almost every quarter of New Zealand, but 1 can say without fear of contradiction that we have a specimen here in the line of bash tracks that can easily bold its own against all comers (aye, even Oparau!) and all those who are forced by cir. cumstances to plunge through those bottomless pits convenient lo the post office know only too well the truth ot the above statement. The least I can say, after I put tbe danger of tbe thing out of view, is that I consider it discreditable in the extreme io tbe cause that keeps this important work back. I have made enquiries with the hope of finding out tbe real reason why this work has not been proceeded with before this date, but tbe reasons given so many and so varied that in my opinion it would require a Sherlock Holmes to discover the real miscreanlr Consequently tbe hopes I once enter taiued of acquiring the desired inf or mation are now what I might deecribt as Defunct. Of course, Mr Editor, this word is sometimes misapplied, but nou so iu this case, I am sorry to say.
