THE Kawhia Settler. FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 1907, KAWHIA AOTEA TRADE.

By .n advertisement appearing in today’s ssue the Northern 8,8. Co. notify the public of their intention to run a regular service by the s.s. Rothesay from Kawhia to the Pakoka landing ebed at Aotea. The next trip will ba on the first day that the weather ’ permits during the spring tides followl lowing the 20th September next, and , thence fortnightly. For the steamer to get to the Pakoka shed it is necessary to wait (or the spring tides, The actual date tor sailing has not been more definitely fixed as the company wish to be able to take advantage of any day that the Aotea bar is workable during the continuance of the springs. The necessity for working at spring tides is not because of the bar at the Aotea Harbour—for there is on it 18ft. of water at low tide—-but bicau-e of the state of the Pakoka Biter. If this river Word snagged and some of the rocks and boulders re j m vod the Rothesay could easily reach the ebed during ordinary tides. 'lf this service can be maintained it should 1 prove to bo a great boon to the Raglan settlers living near Aotea. It will be a cheap and easy way to handle heavy produce outwards, as well as enable the farmers to obtain manures and other weighty goods expeditiously. To make this service a success some effort should be made by the settlors interested, in the direction of putting the Pok k * shed and its approaches in good order, and the river made more safe for traffic. From the way Captain Robert? ba? handled his boat on the Mar -kopa run, we (eel sufe that nothing will be found wanting on his part.
