KAWHIA HARBOUR RAILWAY.
(to THE EDITOR.) E..i, —One of the greatest requirements of this district is a short piece of rrl.way line to connect one of the best harbours in New Zealand wuh the Main Trunk Line. If the Government won't make our line let us appeal to private enterprise and endeavour to get a company floated, like the Manawain Company. No doub big dividends would be paid, as both intercolonial and Home steamr s could trade to Kawhia. The fat stock and produce of inland would then have a cheap outlet, and the Main Trunk Line would act as a feeder. Freezing works and other remunerative factories would then start. Look at the enormous quantity of land that would be served by our beautiful harbour. Both Mr Greenslade and Lang, are battling for our railway, and the Premier admits it must be made. I cannot understand why the Government do not go on with it, and thus reap the honour of opening to the North Island its most central and best port of the West Coast, A three days’ run would fetch Sydney or Melbourne, whilst as far as a quick mail dePvery is concerned Kawhia Harbour is easily first. If this matter was taken up by a company, I feel certain that this district would very rapidly ADVANCE.
