Cr Jonathan eaid th it the County Council had also moved in this matter. The work o i this street had been partly done*by the Government, and then partly undone. The workmen hadyut tfeeroaol on the proper level at firat'and tpen itsb;ixd4o ba reduced, as there waa not’puffifeent money. The work was essentially Gjveraraeut. Crs Falwasser and Turrell agreed that that was so, and it was resolved—- “ That the Government be urge! to complete the work they have already started in Jervois street, as the unfinished condition of this work interferes with future proposed works, and it is essentially a Government work.” LIGHTING TH £ TO WK. Cr Jonathan brought forward the question of lighting the town. The present state of affairs wa-> very unsatisfactory to strangers who were out after dark. It was agreed that lights were needed ne r Falwa&et's office, at the corner of Jervois and Taiuui streets, and the corner of Pouewe aud Jervois streets.
Cr Jonathan undertook (o obtain particulars as to cost and present the sams at tbe next meeting. BILLIARD BOOM LICENSES. Or Jonathan thought that the billiard roorh license fess belonged to the Board. It would be wise, <o save the cost of by-laws, la ask the Council to collect them. Mr Torrell: Yes. We want every penny we can get. There are no hotel licenses here. Cr Jonathan did not think there would be - any difficulty in tbe matter. He was certain the Council would help the Board in avery way. NATIVE TOWNSHIPS. It was decided to forward a copy of the following resolution to the Minister for Lands “ That thia Town Board notes with pleasure that Tanmaranui, Otorohanga, Te Kui<i and the Kawhia County Council are urging the Department to move in the direction of converting the leasehold to freehold in Native townships, and the Board wish to give their hearty support, and trust that the Department will soon put the requisition into practical form.”
