The Moerangi Block.

The Native Lane Board is still sitting in Raglan in connection with tbe settlement of the Moerangi Block. Tbe programme which was initiated by Andrew Pepene Eketeone with regard *0 the apportionment of the various interests in the block has bean carried I out- with almost complete success, and Judge Brown, of the Native Lands C art, is expected here with a view to reporting and camfirming the action and conclusions of-the Moerangi Block Cimmitic". it is estim >.t< d ihu , sb'»■ ii-l the profl ladings which bnvo occtfpud the attention of the Moecangi Lind Board arrive at a successful termination, the settlement of this important area will be ensured in the near futlire. It is affirmed that this method of dealing with Native lands, which establishes a precedent in the colony, has simpli-

fied and accomplished, in a few weeks work which would, with ordinary Native Land Court procedure, have occupied from five”lo twenty-five years.— Raglan Chronie'e. > The Raglan correspondent of the Waikato Argus says ;—“The Native Land Board is still sitting here, although a good many of the natives who first arrived have since left. To tbe European view the work is proceeding slowly, but the chief Maoris concerned claim that as regards expedition the Board’s methods are a long way ahead of tbe Land Courts. So far things seem to have gone very smoothly, and we hearof comparilively few objections to decisions as regards the Board’s defining of relative inte-ests. . The Moerangi-Matak iwai block committee which has been authorised to issue timUer cutting rights over tha block has appointed Anaru Eketone, ofNgaruwahia, as sole agent for the disposal of payable timber, Ngawbare Hone I'aama, of Waitetuna, as his practical assistant, it is reported on. good authority chat there is 80,000,000 ft of timber growing’within woikable dis fcance of the Waitetuna and Kaniwhaniwha streams. A rough estimate of the timber on tbe Aotea side easily available by tbe Maari and Makomako Streams is 20,000,000 ft.
