THE Kawhia Settler. FRIDAY, JULY 5, 1907. IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETING.

A meeting is convened for Saturday night next, the 13th inst., forth? purpose of considering an offer to eatab li»b a bi-week’y steamer service between Wellington or Onehunga and Kawhia and Raglan, which has been mnde by a well known New Zealand fi-ra. The offer has arisen through reading between the lines of the statement made by the Manager of the Northern S.S. Co. regarding the trade that has been done with Kawhia alone. The principal of thia firm, believing that if scab a trade has come i», twelve months that it will further enlarge to guarantee a sound trade in the future, is prepared, if the tradesmen and settlers will guarantee their buMness and take up a proportion of thares so ns to make the venture cooperative in a measure, io make aud keep to a minimum freight charge and ■ Iso reasonable passenger rates. Whilst recognising that the Northern S.S. Company, as represented by the Kia Oia end i»s officers and <he Muritai and i s officers, have made t l ings as pleasant us possible f .r us, we still maintain that every business must be prepared to lose a little to capture future profits, and if ->ur charges were put on the tame basis as Wai’ara this mcctGig would not have been called. As it is, when we find outsiders pre belpjis now 4 we think there

is little chance if saoh a good opportunity as the present he let slip, and therefore trust that the meeting will be largely attended.
