Kiritahere.

(from ouk own correspondent.) Since wr'!inglast we kave had some frosty weather. The winter pcerns to be on us now and the roads hare put on their winter's coat i-f mnd. The settlers will now have to slay by their own firesides until the return of spring and finer weather. Bushfelling Las got fairly under way. J hoar there are several contracts to let but the settlers to get men to take them. There are men in the district who want work, but are not. bushfallcrs. Nearly all the money is guaranteed for the construction of a telephone line frem Kinrbaku to Kiritehere, via Marokopa Heads, a distance of 25 miles. Messrs Rose Toomath, Smith and Haylock are chaining and flagging the route from To Anga Io Marokopa Heads. The portion of line is being chained and flagged from Te Auga to Kiuohaku by Mr John Shaw and party. A meeting was held at Te Auga on the 24th, when final arrangements were made to start the work.

The sei tiers were told before the last election that if a Government Supporter was returned that the district would reap a great advantage and assistance*. A Government member was returned accordingly, and novi> we are reaping the benefits. In the first place we are to have a school at the Marokopo Heads, the only condition being that we have to find the money to erect it! In the second place we are to a telephone at our own expense! Thirdly we are to have a weekly mail service, the only condition being that the man who carries the mail shall bear half the cost! We are off' red £3O a year for a weekly mail service by the Government which is honestly worth £6O of any man’s money. I hope your readers won’t become envious of all the benefits we are deyiving from the prevent Liberal Government. From £4OO to £5OO worth of fibre and fungus, were shipped from Marokopa and Haribari a fortnight ago by the s.s. Rothesay and 0.1. Kotabi, and the boats were busy again last week. The Heads presented quite a busy appearance with the email vessels loading fibre, and punts and launch loading gcods for up the river. These are towed, at least seven miles up the river and can take from five to seven tons of goods at a load. Captain Williamson, of Waitara, is engaged building a large store to cope with the increasing trade.
