THE RATE. The Clerk remarked that be bad recently received thj valuation roll. Tbe rate of 2d in the £ was computed from tbe County roll, but it was now found that the rate would have to be 4d in the £ on the unimproved value, which would produce £6G. The rates on some of tbe Te Puru and Karewa sec lion could not be collected, the leaser havi g been surrendered. If the rate wag naid promptly there would be a subsidy of 10s in the £, and he thought tba tote! revenue would be about £75 per annumMr Turrell though: that as the rate was a new one all the formalities sho Id be gone ver again. Mr Jonathan agreed .that that was so, a- gave i.odce that he would move '•.t the nex. meeting : “ That a rate of 4d in the £ on the unimproved value be struck over tbe Kawhia Town District.” TSE TFNNIS COURTS. Mr Pettit, secretary ot the Kawhia Harbour Lawn Tennis Club, attended, and asked the Board to use its influence to have the tennis courts proclai ned a recreation reserve and vested in the Board. There were numbar nf residents interested, and -he rent charged by the Government (£6 per year for half an acre) was ridiculously high. There hud been improvements to the value of £4O effected on the sec lions. M.’ tonathan thought the ouggestiu d ago one. Th Chairman also supported the request. It might also b well to apply to have all the reserves put into ) block and exchange other sections. If & resolution was drawn up he would bring it before the Minister and ex plain the position. On the motion of Messrs Jonathan and Falwasser it was decided “ That the Chairman approach the Minister for Lands in reference to sections 16 and 17, Te Puru, asking him to set these sections aside for recreation purposes, and to be vested in the Town Board; to also request that the various reserves in Te Puru as now set aside be cancelled, and their equivalent be added on to sections 16 and 17, whereby making these reserves more compact and consequently of more utility and value to the Board.” TOWN RESERVES. Mr Turrell moved : “ That as the Government will not vest the reserves in the township in the Board the clerk write asking that the Board be given control of the sections until such time as a municipality be formed.”—Seconded by Mr Falwasser and carried.
