Telephone to Marokopa.

A meeting in connection with ths ab mitter was baldest Hayiock's landing on Saturday, Miy 11th. Mr John Shaw wa* voted to tbe ch-i", aud Mr P. C. Rose appointed acting secretary. The suggestion for tbe meeting was that a private telephone line be erected from Kinohaku to Marokopa Heads and Kiritehere. The shipping people and storekeepers being materially interested, the opinion was expressed that those concerns would materially benefit, and subscribe accordingly. The Chairman supplied fall information re the line from Waitomo to Kaikuri (Wratten’s).* After fall discussion by those present. it was estimated that a line could be put; through from Kinohaku to Kiritehere for £l5O, exclusive of instruments. Mr Toomath moved : That steps be taken by those present to immediately erect a telephone line from Kinohaku to Kiritehere, via Marokopa Heads, and that a canvas be made amongst the settlers and others for support.*’—Seconded by Mr Haylock, and carried unanimously. On the motion of Messrs Whitcombe and Klein it was resolved “ That all original subscribers be charged Is per message, or five minutes conversation, non - promoters double rates, and oat of revenae received from messages tbe maintenance fund to have first call.’’

The acting secretary was instructed to correspond with the shipping companies aud various settlers at present ou’ of the district, asking for their sjupport.
