With a view to getting the Native Land Commission to hold a sitting at Kawbia, ihe following telegrams have been sent to Sir Robert Stoa f , chairman : “ News yonr Ooramision not visit" ing here received great disfavour both pakeha aad Maoris. One hondred thousand acres undefined land here. All Natives cannot be expected go to Te Koiti. Kawhia most glaring instance Native land curse in New Zealand- Trust can arrange to come.—Pettit.” ** Great consternation here consequent news yonr Commission uot sitting Kawhia. Progress place out of question under present conditions. Over 100,000 acres unratoble land retards everything. Trust on belialf natives and pakeha, you will visit and good will remit.—G. G. doNATRkN, for Town Board.”
“Kawbia County Council sincerely trust that your Oommist-ion will visit and deal with native lauds hero. The largo area unooeupiad land which is unratcable and growing noxious weeds prevents anything in shape of progress for pakeha or Macri. Kawhia’s only hope is this tend being brought into use.— W. J. Shaw, Chairman.”
