A large number of potato crops in the Master ton district have been destroyed by potato Wight. One settler has bad nearly three tons destroyed, and several other settlers are heavy losers. The Raglan County Council are evidently going to test the existing Native rating legislation, and have decided to take a case to the Supreme Court. If unsuccessful, the Council will then put the position before the Minister and ask for relief. As this county has so much Natiye land within its boundaries it is a very important matter to the ratepayers generally. The Exhibition, from its educational aspect, is held up to our admiring gaze, but from the very first it has been less exhibition than of water chute, the aerial flight, O’Neill’si buck jumpers, the House of and Katzenjammer Oas e. Last week a fire occurred at the residence of Mr Forbes, Oparau, resulting in the destruction of au outshed Which conti-ined tools, etc., to the value of £lOO. The fire was caused through a spark from a fire outside. Parliament will bn summoned for the despatch of business at the o"d of June. As the sessional business includes the Land Bill, t riff reform, and native land legislation, the Minister i’or Labour believes that a long session is enevitable.

Dr C. Campbell Jenkins was called to Kinohakuon Wednesday last to ottend to one of Mr John Shews daughters, who was found to be suffering from a dislocated shouldec and broken arm. The games for second place ha ve not been played off yet. Ou Monday last at the Kawhia Conaregatioual Cnnrch, Mr Peter Brough was married to Miss Harriet Wightman, the Rev C,. E. Davidson being the officiating clergyman. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion ; there was ft large gathering of the young couples friends. Mr P. Wightman was best man, the bride being giyen away by her father. After the ceremony the customary breakfast was held at Mr O’Conner’s residence.

After a wearisome daisy, word has been received by tbe Kawhia County Council re the loans, but we regret to say that the information is not very good. The Waitetuna-Aotea loan has been granted, and so have the Kawhia and Awaroa-Mahoe, the former being reduced by £l5 and the latter bl £3OO, owing to errors in making up the interest. The Pirongia West, Okupata and Mahoenui-Kawhia loans will have to be advertised again, owing to half rates having been struck, which is illegal. In another column a meeting of Oparau ratepayers is convened for Saturday, April 20th, to discuss the matter. [We shall probably refer to this subject again.]
