On Friday evening next the fareweH social to Mrs Langley <n ill be held in Scott’s Hall. Mr Cullen, Goveruciant Inspector id Machinery, is paying an official visit to this district. About seven tons of flax was shipfrom Kawhia to Onenunga by the e,s. Kia Ora on Thursday m&rniog. Mr Johnson, of Marokopa, returned to his section on Thursday, after an absence in Australia of two months. Insbeotor Cullen viaited the local Police Station, and, as urur.!. four.d everything in a ecu diiion. The Hon. W. W, M'Cardle, M L.C., is suffering from an attack of qumsey, and intends leaving for Rotorua next week.

By advertisement e meeting of the Kawhia Medical dab is called for Monday next at the conclusion of the Council meeting. The curlews are this year very plentiful, but no big bags have been secured, the best so farre ported

being slightly over 40. The Kawhia County Council has accepted Messrs Sohrieber Bros.’ tender (£57) for contract No. 1, forcing and metalling at Oparau. Messrs Smith and Martin are now busily engaged snagging the Marokopa River, for which work a sum of £l5O was voted last session. SMOKERS PLEASE NOTE. A rush on it. What ? DERBY Tobacco, FLAKE CUT, in TWO OUNCE TINS. AH tobacconists. We are glad to hear that Mr Ashbolt is hunting up Maori owned dogs. The owners have refused to pay, consequently summonses will be issued against several. Persons who require a first-class piano on very easy terms are advised to read the new advertisement of the London and* Berlin Piano Co. on our back page.* The Kawhia County Council hold a meeting on Monday next. The business includes the selection of an engineer, for which position 11 applications have been received. We learn that there was a credit of about £lO from the recent sports at Te Rau-a-moa. In our report of the event we omitted to mention that Mrs Franklin was the very able secretary to the ladies committee. You have soaked your seed in Sharland’s Potato Blight Exterminator aud your plants are now looking well. Keep them well by spraying with the same solution.*

The Marine Department has not replied to the Kawhia Council's applica lion to have the harbour endowments vested in it. This is not the first occasion that this body has been treated with absolute contempt, and it is high time that a deterdboed stand was made.

There was great disgust expressed a few weeks ago when without warning co-operative labour in this district was stopped. No reason was given. Another sudden order has been issued to start work again. We would very much like to be able to understand the Government’s action, but must confess that it is beyond us. A spray in time saves not nine, but many times nine, if it be potato plants you spray, and the solution Sharland's Potato Blight Exterminator,* Although the telephone line to Te Maika and Kinohaku has been erected for some week or two, it is not yet possible to send a message to either places. This is simply because there are no “ sound proof ” officers available. As a further result of the Oparau fault-finder’s report, it is statad that the telephone office there is io be closed.

The potato crops just dug have turned out excellently, and it is gratifying to learn that in the majority of cases they escaped the potato blight. Many of the patches were not given special attention to prevent the disease. One resident, of Kawhia did, however, devote considerable cash and many hours in spraying his rewis, with the result that chat crop was the first to take the blight and was absolutely ruined. That man's talk on “ blight specific ” is delightfully original and very interesting ! Make sure of gathering your potato crops by spraying the plants with .Sharland’s Potato Blight Exterminator. It is the surest safeguard you can have against blight.* A wedding of local interest was celebrated in Kawhia on Tuursday last in the Congregational Church, the contracting parties being Mr Harry Wade and Miss Mary Edwards. The Rev. 0. E. Davidson was the officiating clergyman. The bride, who was attired in a handsome dress of white silk, with the customary wreath and veil, was attended by Miss G. Falwasrer, Mutu giving her away, Mr W o Edwards being best man. There was a large assemblage present, and the old custom of rice throwing was indulged in. Immediately nfter the ceremony the lady friends wore received at Mr E. Falwasser’s residence. There was a representative gathering at the dinner (which had been excellently prepared by Mrs Falwasser) Mr W. A. Mason, J.P., presiding. The toast of “ The Bride and Bridegroom ” was proposed by Mr McCarthy and re sponded by Mr Wade, and that of “ The Hostess ” by Dr C. Campbell Jenkins, Mr Pettit responding on behalf of Mrs Falwasser. About 25 couples attended the dance in ScgU’s Hall in the evening. Mrs Langley, Misses Stevens, ‘Trainor, and Mr Q. Jonathan provided the music, Dr Jenkins being M.C.

Spray, spray again» aud still spray yodr potato plants with Sharland’b Potato Blight Ex terminator. It may fie « ♦rr>ohl°, hn* f* v«n wbwi you oomo tu your oropo,*
