THE Kawhia Settler. FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 1907. THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
The announcement made on Friday morning that our fellow townsman Mr William Wilson M'Cardle had been appointed to a seat in the Legislative Cjuncil was received with much gratification by everyone in Kawhia. Ik was felt that the Government in conferring this honour on Mr M'Cardle had picked out a man who has done much to deserve it, and one who will fill the high position he has been called to, with credit to himself, his district and the colony. The new honourable member will take to the Council a special koowlodg® on some of 'ht groat questions before thia country, more particul vrly the land question in all its different phases. On the question of land settlement Mr M'Cardle hss been for a long time closely identified; ; his views are cltir and definite, the result of wide experience ; his gystem suitable and practicable, be cauae based on common sense. On the question of hnd holding Mr M'Nab will not gain a blird follower in Mr M ‘Cardie the Government Land BiH will certainly not meet with his uhqual.fied support. Ho is a firm believer in the freehold with reasonable limitation?, and this for others as well as himself. We beg to tender to Mr M*C.irdle our best wishes and congratoltdinna, and in doing eo we know we 7 *Le whole pommupily here.
