(FROM OUB OWM OcaaKSPQMIWtNT.) On Friday last the soh ’ol chi'idran'e dome eventuated, and it is sife to state that it will be remembered as a red let er day by tn m [t jq to be hoped that the same en h’x» <u will oe sbowa eve yyar to b in; g her children, parents snd frien 1- it >uiy (or one day o( ne 865. Gres: cr dk iv due to those who assisted to make the day an pleasant, but it would nus be fair far me co individualise. Everyone in his or her way did their best towards ihM end, and on behalf of the children I would like to thank all who assteed. In the evening a dance was bald at Me Harper’s, and aMmingl; tte wa spirit prevailed. Dancing waa kept up till daylight. Mr 8. Wright provided the music on the violin, being assisted by Miss Carr, Mes rs Dereoonrt and L. Armitage. Refreshments wan supplied by Host Harper at 11 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. A recitation by Mr 8. Wright and a song by Mr L. Armitage brought to a close one of tbe best gatherings aver held in thia district.
Daring the evening a meeting was arranged to consider our annual sportg to be held in March. It is to be hoped that a suitable ground can be Secured and that our boys will use tbeir best endeavours to have them carried out successfully.
Our district is still moving along. Daring tbe past six months Mr /. E. Scott has completed dwellings for Dr. 0. 0. Jenkins, Mr J. P, Wright, Mr J. Crotty, a woolshed for Mr J. Wright, l at Lemon Point, and ia now building a residence for the last named gentlemen. Messrs Green and Neilson have finished sawing for Mr J. Shaw, so I expect to chronicle ere long that the erection of a new bouse is being started there.
I believe a road has been graded to touch the tide where a hunch can work at all tides, but why this taihoa? A small bridge and a few chains of earthwork would connect with the Maboenm road, and be a boon to Ons and all. Oparau with its log Is do be envied, for unless one is a Blondin and tble to walk a No. 8 wire it is impossible to cross the creek without a h rae or a boat when the tid« ia in. Toe Rev. R. Mitchell holds divine eervice fortnightly, and it is distressing to see those who wish to reach there or ihiir iibmes trying to cross. However, the powers that be now realise that the road and a bridge are necessary, and as there is au amount on tbe eaumUes I h&vs no doubt that with tbeic usual prompitade the matter will be taken in band and this important work finished while the fine weather # tikst c l.
