ORDINARY MEETING.

The usual meeting of the above body was held m the Council Chambers on Thursday evening last, when there ware present—Messrs M'Cardle (in the chair), Turrell and Scott. Basley be appointed solicitor, and that tbe question of whether it was nece nry to taka another poll relative to rating n the unimproved value be submitted to him f- r an opinion ; that the Minister of Lands ba written t > re the encroachment of sand, aud that, he be asked to have a report prepare 1 as to to the best means to reclaim the sa*<d bills surrounding Kawhii ; that the question of advocating tha formation jf a properly ooivitu ed H»rbjur be hell over pending the County Council obtaining inform Him which has been asked for; that the Minister o r Lands be approached rela ive to putting a Bill through the Hou-»e so that the freehold of the native townships around Kawbia o uld be acquired, that beirg in tbe best interests of tbe nativ a, lessees and distric generally; th »i Mr J. K. Newton be appointed clerk at a salary of £lO per annum ; that e? q i'ries be made relative to getting a re va’ua i m of the properties within tbe tjown area.
